Scoping a drive: whole account or just the folders that matter

Connecting a cloud drive to AskMyDocs is a two-decision process: which account, and how much of it. This is a short practical guide to both.

Connect the account

From Sources in the sidebar, pick Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Box and approve the OAuth prompt. You can connect several accounts of the same provider — a personal Gmail Drive and a work one, side by side — and each connection is listed separately with its own scope and its own sync status. The OAuth tokens are stored encrypted (AES-GCM) and are only ever used to read.

Choose the scope

  • Entire drive — everything the account can read gets indexed. Best for a personal document brain where you want zero curation.
  • Chosen folders — hand-pick folders and only their contents (recursively) come in. Best for teams: point a connection at the "Policies" folder, not the whole shared drive.

Scope isn't a one-time decision. Re-open the connection and re-scope it any time; newly included folders sync in on the next pass.

Read the progress

After a connect or re-scope, the Sources panel shows live progress: first a scan that counts what's in scope, then "N / M synced" climbing as files import. Files over 25 MB are skipped and noted. Once synced, the background refresh keeps things current roughly every 15 minutes — changed files arrive as new versions of their documents.

What sync never does

Sync is one-way and additive. We read from your drive; we never write to it, never reorganize it, and never delete from it. Removing a file from your drive doesn't remove it from AskMyDocs either — your library keeps what it has learned until you delete it there.
